Find the best concealer for under-eye circles

“For the eye area, you need something that lasts, like MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, £22. That means it doesn’t sit in fine lines and doesn’t lift your mascara — resulting in panda eyes at the end of the night,” explains Dominic.

Something to note is that dark circles under the eyes are very often hereditary, so you’re not going to get rid of them completely. She also says, “Using under the eyes is all about light layering of products.” She recommends color-correcting and then applying your foundation before applying your concealer. And blend each one into the skin with a very soft fluffy brush.

And your last tip? Highlighter. “Applied with a fingertip and patted into the outer corners of my eye area, this is also a great distraction from the fine lines in that area.”

Choosing the best concealer for acne and blemishes

“To hide blemishes, you have to go for a creamier texture,” Dominic continues. “This prevents the dry skin around the blemish from cracking and peeling throughout the day. It’s best to choose one that most closely matches your skin tone, and I find that applying with your fingers in a tapping motion works best to fully conceal the blemish.

“For skin pigmentation and uneven skin tone, I recommend a liquid as you can build coverage to a flawless finish. Plus, you can mix it into your regular liquid foundation to give it that extra red carpet finish. MAC’s Studio Fix 24-hour smoothwear concealer, £19.50 is fantastic and a staple for fashion week and awards season in my kit. Combine with a great hyperpigmentation treatment for maximum results.

What about the best concealer brushes?

While some people prefer to use the ‘magic wand’ or tip of their concealer, a brush is recommended to ensure you get the most out of the product and get a nice, even finish with even coverage. In terms of size, we’d recommend something like the Bobbi Brown Concealer Brush, £25.50, or the classic MAC 195 Brush, £16.50. Alternatively, tap it into the under-eye area with your ring finger – it fits perfectly into the inner corner of your eye socket and under the lash line.

Concealer vs. color corrector

Color correctors work incredibly well with your concealer; As the name suggests, they color properly rather than completely covering them up. For example, if you have blue or purple eye areas, it makes sense to use a peachy, orange corrector before your concealer.

On the other hand, if you have a serious red blemish, then a green shade color corrector will remove some of that telltale inflamed pink hue before you cover it up.
